No Refund on Auto Renew - Shady Practices

Some domains of mine were set to auto-renew, I was alerted and tried to cancel these, but the renewal page is so confusing that the domains I tried to cancel went into my 'cart' for some reason. Then I forgot about the deadline and these domains I didn't want to be renewed for $85, so I contacted customer support and they said they couldn't refund me because it wasn't in their policy. This seems very shady and an unnecessary way to fleece your customers, I could just chalk it up to an 85 dollar lesson to never use GoDaddy again. Is your business model to steal money from people? Because that is what it feels like has happened.

Hey there @vanfanal

Here are the standard policies for domain name registration/renewal refunds:

Standard Terms

  • New Registration                      5 Days (120 Hours)
  • Auto-Renewal (one-year)           45 Days (1080 hours)
  • Auto-Renewal (multiple-year)     5 Days (120 Hours)
  • Manual Renewal                       5 Days (120 Hours)

You can find more info here. There are some limitations depending on the TLD you registered.

Unless it's a specialized country code TLD, you have 45 days from renewal in most cases to request a refund. That's per company policy. If an agent has told you otherwise, you need to call back in and speak with someone else. Again, if you have a special TLD, such as a country code domain, it might be different.

Good luck!
