Opening server logs .gz

Hello. When I download a .gz server log file and open it in notepad (Windows 10), it's all in Asian characters. What am I doing wrong?

a .gz file is a compressed file - you need to extract it first to get to the log file

Thanks! Windows doesn't recognize it as a zipped file or give me any option to unzip.

I appreciate your help, thank you!
