Edit my private email address settings

All domains eligible for Domain Privacy have immediate access to a private email address as an extra layer of identity protection. When messages are sent to this private email address, you can set it to forward the messages to your preferred email address. You'll be able to stay in touch with anyone trying to contact the domain owner, while still keeping your personal email address private.

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio. (Need help logging in? Find your username or password.)
  2. Select the specific domain you'll be updating to access the Domain Settings page.

  3. In the Domain Privacy section, select Edit email settings.
  4. Choose which Email forwarding option works best for you.
    • Filter for spam and forward to this email (recommended): We'll check for spam emails sent to your private email address and remove those, so you'll only receive legitimate messages at your preferred email address.
      • Enter your preferred email address in the Email address field.
    • Forward all email to this email: All messages sent to your private email address will be forwarded to your preferred email address.
      • Enter your preferred email address in the Email address field.
    • Do not forward email: We won't forward any emails sent to your private email address.
  5. Choose which Randomized private email address option works best for you.
    • Randomize email address (recommended): Your private email address will be randomly generated characters in front of @domainsbyproxy.com, making it harder to guess and helping reduce unwanted spam messages.
    • Use default email address: Your private email address will remain the default of [yourdomainname]@domainsbyproxy.com.
  6. Select Save to confirm your changes.

Your updated settings may take up to 90 minutes to show in your account and WHOIS.

Related steps

  • Respond to a forwarded message by composing a new email message to the sender's email address, which can be found in the subject line of the forwarded email message. Sending a new email message means you willingly expose your personal email address to the recipient.
  • Make sure your underlying domain contact info is accurate and make any necessary changes.
